A college preparation guide for
parents who did not attend college.

College Admissions Timeline

The process of researching, choosing, and gaining admission to college probably begins as early as middle school. Research suggests that most students formalize their aspirations to attend college sometime between the eighth and tenth grades. This does NOT mean these students have selected a specific college at this point, but rather that they have decided that attending college after high school is their goal. It is important that academic preparation for college admission begin with the selection of appropriate courses as early as 7th or 8th grade, when some schools begin offering foreign language instruction, acceleration in mathematics, or "college track" English courses.
